Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser (75441) review

A mid-sized Star Wars Venator model that won’t break the bank or your shelves.

Lego Venator-Class Attack Cruiser 75441

The latest in Lego’s line of mid-sized Star Wars ships, this Lego Star Wars 75441 Venator-Class Attack Cruiser is a more pocket-friendly alternative to the massive UCS Venator model. Right out of Revenge of the Sith, it can be put together in a few hours, and will look seriously impressive on any shelf.

What’s in the box?

The Lego Star Wars 75441 Venator-Class Attack Cruiser includes five bags of bricks (mine were plastic) and a manual (with tech specs for the ship). Thankfully, there are no stickers; instead, it uses the same Republic logos bricks from the Lego Star Wars Acclamator set. There are no minifigures, which is understandable given its size.

Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser review: The Build

On the whole, the Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser is a fun build. The instructions are easy to follow, and I was able to save some time by building the left and right upper-and-lower wings simultaneously, mentally mirroring them.

Wings? Yes, because unlike the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship, which uses long rods, the sides of the ship clip onto the body via clamps. It does have the side effect that the wings can feel flimsy, until you lock them in later with another piece, but they never actually fell off during my build.

While there are no minifigures, the early stages have you placing a ‘Republic officer’ and a ‘Clone Trooper’ inside the craft. In reality, these are a pair of small circular pieces that, once the set’s finished, you’ll never see again. It’s still a neat touch, though.

I know some people would have preferred the ship’s twin bridges to be red, but I’m fine with them being grey, mainly because they match the Venator’s look during Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’s opening sequence.

Play or display?

The Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser is strong enough to be swooshable and can be detached from its stand. Despite the aforementioned piece locking the wings in, there’s still some give, which is faintly off-putting. That’s the limit of this set’s play factor, though.

Instead, you should view this set as a display piece; a cool, shelf-sized recreation of one of the prequels’ most iconic ships. The side-mounted ‘guns’ are clamp pieces, which don’t quite convince, but the rest of the model, including the top-mounted guns, convince.

The rear engines are spot on, a clever repurposing of grey barrel pieces, and a pair of side-mounted 2×1 transparent blue pieces make convincing docking bay shields. It’s an excellent mid-sized model, whether you’re displaying it solo or with other ships in the range.

Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser: Value for money?

At £69.99, the Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser is a little pricier than the Lego Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship, but I think it’s worth it. I’m looking forward to seeing where Lego takes this range next. A mid-sized First Order Supremacy, anyone?

Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser review

Unless you hate the prequels with a vengeance, the Lego Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser is an excellent buy. Would I prefer it if the wings were a little stiffer? Absolutely, but it's not a deal breaker and this is such a cool recreation of an iconic vessel that it'll put a smile on any Star Wars fan's face.
