This Lego Ideas fuzzy bumble bee is awesome but a little bit scary too

This giant Lego bumble bee is less than 1,000 votes away from being a real set. No-one tell Michael Caine.

Lego Ideas Bee

What’s better than Lego flowers? A bunch of flowers with a fuzzy bumble bee on it! That’s the principle behind Lego Ideas model which less than 1,000 votes away from being reviewed by Lego, with a chance of becoming a real set!

It’s the work of TaipanTheSnake, who states it’s a depiction of the Common Eastern Bumble Bee. “I wanted to see the furry adorableness of a bumble bee captured in Lego form, but could not find anyone online that had accomplished a realistic depiction of a bee that included the fur and textures on a bees body. I gave it a try to see if it was possible to do in Lego, and the result was better than I imagined,” they write.

There’s no faulting their attention detail. The set includes Lego fur, to give the insect its fuzziness, and while it doesn’t have a proboscis, as far as we can tell, its pollen-gathering leg pouch is on display. TaipanTheSnake has also provided a handful of white flowers for it to feed from. And, while they don’t detail how the wings are made, they’re seriously striking.

All in all, it’s an awesome set and it deserves the 9,000+ votes it’s currently received. We suspect that the full set, if it gets made, would be for 18+ builders, but there’s some play potential there. Are we going to vote for this set to get made? Absolutely.

However, there’s still a note of fear when we look at it. Yes, it’s just a block-based model but somewhere, in the back of our head, our brain is screaming that bees should not be that big. We’d ‘awww’ at this on our shelf, but if someone moved it to our pillow during the night we’d have a very rude awakening.

Want to lend your support to this model? Head over to Lego Ideas and vote. Once it hits 10,000 it’ll be reviewed by Lego and, if all goes well, it could be on store shelves next year.
