Move over Optimus Prime, Soundwave is my new favourite Lego Icons Transformer and he’s here next month
Friendship ended with Lego Optimus Prime, now Lego Soundwave is my best friend.

Sorry, Optimus Prime, you’ve been bumped. Oh, sure, you’re still leader of the Autobots but as of August you’ll no longer be the coolest Lego bot on the block. Lego has announced we’re getting a Lego Icons Transformers Soundwave set and I can’t wait.
Why? Because Soundwave was always one of my favourite transformers. Oh, sure, Optimus Prime could turn into a truck, but Soundwave was a boom box and you were getting more for your money with his cassette bots. Takara Tomy even turned him into a working MP3 player, which I regret not buying when it was available.
So what does Lego Icons Transformers Soundwave 10358 have to offer, apart from looking amazingly cool? Intended for builders aged 18 or above, he’s made up of 1,505 pieces and stands a towering 33cm high. And, as a neat bonus, he has sound effects you can play with the touch of a button.
Naturally, he also transforms from his robot to stereo form, but this Lego Icons Transformers Soundwave set also includes transformable versions of his cassettes, Laserbeak and Ravage. Once transformed, they sit neatly into his chest cavity, ready for mid-combat ejection.

We’re mildly disappointed that Frenzy and Rumble have been left out, but we wouldn’t be surprised if some third party didn’t come up with their own unofficial but compatible cassette-bots. We’ve got our fingers crossed that Lego is secretly hoarding a Gift With Purchase set of the duo.
So how much is this gorgeous Lego set going to set you back? According to Lego’s Newsroom announcement, it’ll be £179.99 / $189.99. However, the actual listing on Lego’s site states £159.99 / $179.99 so we suspect that’s the correct price. That’s the same price as Lego Icons Transformers Optimus Prime.
So when can you get your hands on Lego Icons Transformers Soundwave? He’s not available for pre-order but will land in shops from August 4th. Lego Insiders, on the other hand, can order him online from Lego.com from August 1st.
