Lego Creator 3-in-1 Haunted Mansion is for people who missed out on 2012’s Monster Fighters Haunted House

Time to get spooky.

If you collect Lego sets, you likely have “the one that got away” — you know, the one set you’d love to own, but is now retired and too expensive to buy from a reseller. I have a few, but one of them is the Haunted House from the Monster Fighters range, which was available between 2012 and 2014. I could still get it, but it’s more than twice its original price — and with Lego just announcing a Creator 3-in-1 Haunted Mansion which looks suspiciously familiar, I don’t need to anymore.

Releasing on 1st August, Lego Creator 3-in-1 31167 Haunted Mansion is a brand new set, but it’s clear inspiration has been taken from the decade-old Monster Fighters set. The house is a similar colour, has similar planks across the windows, and it’s fronted with a very similar set of gates. It is, of course, a lot smaller than the original Haunted House: the Monster Fighters building, which you can see below, was an impressive 2,064 pieces. The new Creator set is only 736 pieces.

It’s safe to assume that the Creator 3-in-1 Haunted Mansion also won’t have an interior. While the Monster Fighters Haunted House opened up to reveal a fully-decorated set of rooms, I’m assuming the new set won’t have a back at all, instead having a very limited and basic interior.

It’s a far cry from the excellent Haunted House, then, but until Lego decide to revive the Monster Fighters range — or bring about a spiritual successor — it’ll have to do.

Along with the haunted mansion itself, Lego Creator 3-in-1 31167 Haunted Mansion can also be built into a haunted train and a haunted barge. They both look pretty cool, but the house wins it for me. It’ll cost £79.99 when it releases, and it comes with five minifigures: a woman, Frankenstein’s monster, a werewolf, a skeleton and a ghost.

More details about the set are available on Lego’s official website.
