This Lego Hermit Crabinet is a magnificent crustacean creation

Wonder where all those missing plates went? This Hermit Crabinet Lego build has the answer.

Lego Hermit Crabinet

We’ve seen some wild Lego custom builds, including this one which turns Lego’s Infinity Gauntlet into a golden toilet. But we can at least see where the inspiration for that came from. This Lego ‘Hermit Crabinet’ build, on the other hand, we don’t know where to start. It is, however, undeniably awesome.

It’s the work of Lego designer, Maxx Davidson aka MrMaxxwell, who posted their creation on Instagram (spotted by LegoBrickBros). Davidson literally works for Lego, as a brick experience manager and was the mind behind this GWP Lego Sonic the Hedgehog Crabmeat Badnik set.

Despite their crab-based expertise, this isn’t a random creation. It’s to promote the crustacean competition they’re running with fellow designer Aron GerencsĂ©r. The winner will receive a Crabmeat Lego set, signed by designer Davidson.

It seems unlikely this Hermit Crabinet will become an official set, but it’s still an amazing piece of work. Hermit crabs are known for making their homes in literally anything, discarded trash included. So if someone were to drop a doll house-sized cabinet into the water, we could well imagine some crab making it their home.

It’s certainly a less unsettling notion than a giant crab wandering into your house and appropriating your furniture. Is it cute as a button? Absolutely. Would we want to run into it when we were working late at night? Absolutely not.

If you’ve got your own crustacean aspiration you can enter Davidson and GerencsĂ©r’s competition (crabpetition?) here.
