This adorable Lego Ideas Floating Sea Otter is becoming a real set

Altogether now? Awwwww..

Lego Ideas Sea Otter

You know what the problem with Lego is? Not enough sea otters. Thankfully, Lego is set to solve that issue. They’ve announced that an official Lego Ideas Floating Sea Otter set will be coming to store shelves. It’s one of two Lego Ideas submissions that have been selected from Lego’s second 2024 review, and it’s so adorable we could just squee.

The set in question is the work of builder HisBrickMaterials. Aside from being a cool set it’s designed to highlight the plight of the sea otter, a currently endangered species. It boasts several moveable parts and makes it look like the otter is submerged, chilling out as it bobs along. Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to wiggle a Lego otter’s little paws?7

You can expect Lego to tweak the set somewhat before it reaches store shelves. Typically, Lego Ideas sets are very similar to the submitted sets, and we doubt this set is going to get cut down much. But we will have to wait a while, perhaps a year or more, before we can buy the Lego Floating Sea Otter set.

It’s not the only set to get Lego’s official stamp of approval, however. As announced over on the Lego Ideas blog, they’re also turning this Lego Snoopy Campfire submission into a real set. That’s two out of the 35 submitted ideas, which might be disheartening for some builders. But there’s good news on that front, too.

Lego Ideas has introduced a new concept, the ‘Parking Lot’, for Ideas submissions that need additional time to explore. Lego has added two sets to the Parking Lot, Tintin’s Rocket and Downton Abby: Highclere Castle. It’s likely no coincidence that both those sets are licenced and, as such, would require Lego to negotiate for the rights.

The third Lego Ideas 2024 review is still in the works, and the results of that review will land in May 2025.
