Lego has announced a Sherlock Holmes Book Nook and it’s excellent, my dear Watson

This might be one of our favourite ever Lego Icons sets.

We’ve long wondered why Lego hasn’t made ‘book nooks’: narrow models designed to slip in between books on a bookshelf. Brick-built nooks have always struck us as a genius idea, and it seems like Lego is finally cottoning on: it’s just announced a Sherlock Holmes Book Nook, and it’s a thing of beauty.

Made up of 1,359 pieces, the Sherlock Holmes Book Nook — or ‘bookshelf decor kit’, as Lego describes it on the official store piece, shows a diorama of Baker Street. There’s a bookshop complete with a revolving door, a terraced house and, of course, number 221B: the residence of Sherlock Holmes himself.

What’s particularly neat is that you don’t have to use the set as a book nook if you don’t want. The diorama can be folded out to reveal a front facade of the street, so it’ll look fantastic as a standard display set, too.

But as a book nook, we personally think it’s something special. You can peer into the street as if looking down an alleyway, and the outer side of the set (or the reverse, if you have it folded out) has a silhouette of Holmes emblazoned on it, almost as if it’s a book cover itself. It’s rather special.

It also comes with five minifigures: Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson, Irene Adler, Paige and Professor Moriarty, and from the pictures we’ve seen, they look utterly delightful. See for yourself:
