Forget Star Wars, this Lego Spaceballs build is the sci-fi set we need

Are we being too literal?

Lego Spaceballs, a set showing two characters holding a giant comb, coming the desert.

There are some absolutely awesome Lego Star Wars sets out there but at this precise moment, all we want is this amazing Lego Spaceballs set, a brilliantly original community build that you can find on Rebrickable.

Unlike the wonderfully silly Lego Infinity Toilet, this isn’t an alternate build for an existing set. But that doesn’t diminish how cool it is, featuring one of the most memorable scenes from Mel Brooks’ Star Wars spoof Spaceballs.

Upon being asked to comb the desert, Dark Helmet commands his troops to literally comb the desert. “We ain’t found shit!”, yells one Spaceball Trooper, lumbered with the smallest but still oversized comb. That trooper was Tim Russ, who later played Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager.

This Rebrickable Spaceballs build, courtesy of builder AVGJoeTinkering, has those two hapless troopers dragging the comb through the sand. It’s one of several Spaceballs builds on the site, including Lone Starr’s Winnebago. But it’s the simplicity of this build that makes it so appealing.

This Lego Spaceballs ‘Comb the Desert’ set is made up of 298 pieces and while it might be tricky to round up all those pieces, the instructions themselves are free. We’re absolutely going to dive into our Lego box to see how many we’ve got to hand. And if not? We’ll just have to use the Schwartz.
