Wonder why stepping on Lego bricks hurts? This brilliant minibuild has the answer.
There’s an evil, evil secret lurking inside every Lego brick.

Ever wonder why stepping on a Lego brick hurts so much? It’s just a chunk of plastic, after all. It shouldn’t feel like you’ve just leapt, soles-first, onto a bed of nails. A creative new minibuild may have the answer, uncovering the ‘truth’ behind this painful phenomeon.
As revealed by Lego builder zsobig, the reason Lego bricks hurt so much is that each one is packed with tiny, tiny spears. You read that right. All those innocuous-looking blocks that go together to create such wonders? They’re home to teeny, tiny blacksmiths who dedicate their lives to churning out pointed instrument after pointed instrument.
So when you stand on a Lego brick, it hurts because you’re getting free acupuncture from all those spears. That’s why stepping across Lego is the equivalent of walking across hot coals. There’s no other scientific reason whatsoever. Mystery solved.
This tongue-in-cheek build is just one of several creations Zsobig has come up with. We especially like their vertical ‘Growing Up’ minifigure habitat. It features a female minifigure’s room as she grows from baby to child to teenager. It even shows her painting her own room, a seriously neat touch.

You can find several of their creations, including this adorable tiny Parisian street, over at Bricklink. Since there are MOCs, or ‘my own creation’, you’ll need to hunt down the bricks, but you can buy them directly through the site. “Behind the scenes of a brick” will cost you £27, but it’s surely worth that price for a memento of this long-standing mystery.
