Lego Sonic the Hedgehog is great, but Sega’s other games deserve some Lego love. That’s where this awesome Lego Ideas Outrun set comes in, and it’s truly a thing of beauty.
If you’ve not played Outrun, because you’re not crumbling to dust like we are, you’ve missed out on a classic. From its soundtrack to the way you’d flip your car over then be driving the next minute, it was a blast. It began life as a coin-op, but its high-speed driving shenanigans were ported to many, many other platforms.
Now, Lego builder Jugles has immortalised Sega’s arcade coin-op with their Lego Ideas Outrun set, and it’s amazing. It’s so, so awesome to look at, with your racer and their partner sitting at the start line, about to tear off down the road.
It includes a host of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it details from the game, including the cameraman who’s filming you as your roar off. Jugles has also included the speedometer, stage marker and those famous palm trees.

However, what’s really exciting about this set is that we can imagine it being in the first of a line of similar sets, each capturing a tableau from an old-school arcade game. We’re tempted to rummage around in our brick box, and try our hand and putting together an Afterburner model.
