This Lego Ideas Sony PlayStation 2 needs to be a real set right now
This awesome Lego Ideas submission even comes with a Lego memory card.
Did you grow up with the PlayStation 2? Maybe, like us, you feel like crumbling to dust whenever someone refers to the PS2 as retro-gaming. If so, there’s an amazing Lego Ideas PlayStation 2 that we’re hoping and praying becomes a real set.
The set is the work of builder RippleDrive. And while it’s still just a fan-submitted idea, it’s been chosen as a staff pick. And we’re hoping that’ll give it the boost it needs for it to reach review stage. If it succeeds there, it’ll become a real (and probably slightly pricey) set.
What’s so great about this Lego Ideas Sony PlayStation 2? Everything. Not only does it nail the look of the PlayStation 2, there’s so much attention to detail. The tray ejects, there’s a memory card, and you can have the ‘console’ in a vertical or horizontal position.
On top of that, you can actually peek inside. It’s been a while since we poked around in the guts of a PS2, so we can’t comment on its accuracy, but the internal shots look convincing enough. It’s made up of 2114 pieces and is nearly the same size as the original PS2.
“One of the reasons why I decided to build a PS2 was that I have a lot of fond memories playing the PS2 as a kid and as an adult, as this is my favorite video game console of all time. I also decided to build this as video game related LEGO sets have been successful,” explains RippleDrive.
They’re right; so far Lego has given us the Lego Icons Atari 2600 and the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System, so a Lego PS2 would fit right in. Though there’s also the possibility that another company will get there first. Mega released a buildable Xbox 360 console so maybe they’ve already put out their feelers to Sony.
If it does reach the 10,000 votes required to be reviewed (it’s nearly halfway there), the last hurdle will be getting Sony to agree. But we have our fingers crossed that happens and if you’re of a similar mind, head over to Lego Ideas and give this awesome Lego PlayStation 2 set your support.
