These Two Lunar New Year LEGO Sets Are Launching on Boxing Day

We’re getting two more Chinese celebration sets from LEGO this year, set to launch on Boxing Day. These sets seem to be an important part of LEGO’s calendar, as this will be the third wave of them to land. And they look just as fantastic as ever. Let’s take a look at each one, shall we?

LEGO 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival

  • RRP £89.99
  • 1,519 pieces
  • Age 8+
  • 13 minifigures

A 1,500 piece set for £90? That sounds like quite a bargain to us. And this set is just beautiful, depicting a wintery ice skating scene. There’s so much personality in here, partly in thanks to the 13 (!) minifigures included. We particularly love the minifig in a tiger costume on the ice.

Also of note is the gorgeous Chinese doorway on the left, and the ice-sculpted archway that takes centre stage of the model. It’s truly a delightful scene, and no doubt a must-buy for us after Christmas. You can see more about it on LEGO’s website by clicking here.

LEGO 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions

  • RRP £59.99
  • 1,066 pieces
  • Age 8+
  • 12 minifigures

Rather than display just one scene, LEGO 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions displays six scenes. These small builds join together to form a circular display, or can be stacked on top of each other for better viewing. Each scene portrays some part of Chinese festive culture: from shopping, making good-luck decorations, to visiting family and exchanging red ‘Hongbao’ envelopes.

What we especially love about this is each of the six scenes comes with its own separate instruction booklet, so it’s a set that the hole family can build together. What better way to introduce a parent or sibling to LEGO who might not have build anything before?
