This Lego Ideas Big Mouth Billy Bass set resurrects the 2000s’ tackiest invention
Don’t worry, be flappy.
Remember that wall-mounted, singing electronic fish that was all the rage in the early 2000s? This Lego Ideas Big Mouth Billy Bass set is bringing this flappy, tacky fish back and it’s well on the way to becoming a real set.
It’s the work of builder Raphy, who noticed that no-one had submitted a Lego version of Big Mouth Billy Bass, and so set about creating one. If, right now, you’re thinking of that Jeff Goldblum line from Jurassic Park, we’re right there with you. But we still adore the creativity that’s gone into making this set.
It doesn’t actually play music, but it flaps about on its plaque as if it was singing and can also be mounted on a shelf, where it’ll likewise perform. How? According to Raphy, it’s down to a combination of gears, levers and rubber bands, plus a battery. You can turn this Lego creation off though it’ll be slightly fiddlier than silencing the real Big Mouth Billy Bass.
The set, which is made up of around 2,000 pieces, currently has 4,087 votes. That’s pretty impressive for an idea that was uploaded in September. On top of that, it’s been selected as a Lego Staff Pick, which should help give it a boost.

If this Lego Ideas Big Mouth Billy Bass set hits 10,000 votes it’ll be reviewed by Lego and, potentially, made into a real set. I say potentially because plenty of Lego Ideas sets have hit that magic number and don’t get made. But if you’ve been craving a blocky version of this iconic 2000-era novelty, head over to Lego Ideas and lend it your support.
