Lego’s latest Nintendo crossover is an absolute must have for any 90s kid
The Lego Game Boy is incredibly accurate, even down to the ports and switches on the side.

First there was the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System. Then there was the Atari 2600, and the Pac-Man Arcade Machine. Now, there’s a new set for gamers, and we’re absolutely in love with it. Lego Nintendo 72046 Game Boy has just been revealed, set to launch on 1st October, and it’s an almost 1:1 scale replica of the original 90s handheld.
If you’re young enough to not remember the Game Boy (you missed out!), it was Nintendo’s first mass-market handheld console capable of playing multiple games. It was the home of Tetris, of many Mario games, and of the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. With its monochromatic dot matrix screen, it’s worlds away from the technology of today, but back in the early 90s, it was a staple of every kid’s bedroom.

Lego Nintendo 72046 Game Boy: Key details
- Age rating: 18+
- Release date: 1st October
- Price: £54.99
- Number of pieces: 421
Lego’s replica, made up of 421 pieces, is so close to the real thing that we can’t quite get over it. On the front of the device is a glass screen, under which you can insert a lenticular card printed to resemble the actual Game Boy screen. There’s a cartridge slot in the back, and even crucial details like the external connector port, volume and contrast switches have been included.
And yes, before you ask, the console does come with cartridges that can actually be inserted into the Game Boy. There’s a Super Mario Land cartridge and a Link’s Awakening cartridge — two games that every Game Boy owner will surely have played. We’re a little disappointed there’s no Tetris cartridge, however.

Lego has absolutely nailed the colour scheme, and it looks like new elements have been created for the A and B buttons, which really add a layer of authenticity to the set. The Game Boy comes with a brick-built stand, too, allowing you to stand this up on display. It’s going to look fantastic alongside a game collection.
Perhaps the most (pleasantly) surprising thing about this set, though, is the price. Lego Nintendo 72046 Game Boy will cost just £54.99 when it arrives on 1st October. And pre-orders are open right now, so what are you waiting for?
