This awesome Lego Ideas ThunderCats set is the eighties flashback we need

A Lego Ideas Thundercats set, with several Thundercats Lego figures and a Thundercats tank.

“ThunderCats, Ho!” If those words defined your Saturday morning, then you’ll be over the moon at this new Lego Ideas submission. It’s early days yet, but one enterprising builder is pitching a Lego Ideas ThunderCats Thundertank, based on the 80s cartoon. And it needs to happen. Really. There’s no justice in the world if it doesn’t.

Okay, maybe we got a bit carried away there. Even if it does get reviewed by Lego, there’s always the thorny issue of licensing, but we’ll leave the lawyers to tackle that one. Spotted by Bob’s Vintage Bricks, this set is rendered on computer, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

Made up of 1,321 pieces, it features the Thundertank, the ThunderCats’ iconic mode of transport, alongside six minifigures of Lion-O and crew. There have been a couple of ThunderCats reboots, but it’s the 80s series that holds a special place in our hearts. And it’s that ThunderCats series that this Lego Ideas set channels.

The set is the work of builder MOCTurnal, who’s had several ideas (including the A-Team van) reach 10,000 votes. However, they’ve yet to have a submission turned into a real set, so we’ve got our fingers crossed. Could this be their big win?

It’s certainly possible but as cool as this set is, it’s not down to votes, not yet. The ThunderCats Lego Ideas set is part of Lego’s 80s Challenge competition. If it’s selected as one of the top entries, it’ll then go to a fan vote. So if you want to see this set become a reality, keep an eye on the competition and check back in from the 16th to the 23rd of April.
