Lego reveals the ultimate set for Lord of the Rings fans: Barad-dûr
Move over, Rivendell: there’s a new giant Lord of the Rings set in town.
Move over, Rivendell: there’s a new giant Lord of the Rings set in town. Lego has just lifted the lid on the Barad-dûr set, which is releasing on 1st June. At £399.99, it’s a tiny bit cheaper than Rivendell, but every bit as impressive, standing at 83cm/32.5inches high. That’s about half the size of a fully-grown human. Or a couple of hobbitses stacked up.
Lego The Lord of the Rings Barad-dûr features the iconic fortress which boasts the Eye of Sauron atop it. The interior of the fortress is decked out with lots of features, such as Gollum’s hideout, a weapons forge, a prison, a dining area, Mouth of Sauron’s study, and a library.

It’s plenty interactive too: there’s a raisable Orc cage, hidden secrets, a rotating ladder and an automated black gate. The Eye of Sauron lights up, too.
There are 10 minifigures included in the set, including Sauron, Mouth of Sauron, Gothmog, Orc, Frodo, Sam and Gollum.
If you’re a Lego Insiders member, you can pick up Barad-dûr on 1st June. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until 4th June. We’d recommend grabbing it quickly at launch though — it comes with a Fell Beast gift with purchase, pictured below. These exclusive freebies tend not to stay around for very long and can be quite valuable.
It’s a pricey set at £399.99, but with 5,471 pieces it feels pretty justified. If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, it’s undoubtedly a set you’re going to want to add to your collection. See more about the set on Lego’s website.
