Have you ever looked at Lego’s gifts-with-purchase sets and thought you could do better? Or maybe you just want to show off your creativity? Lego’s Set of Your Dreams competition is your chance to shine.

If you’re not familiar with Lego’s GWP programme, it’s a promotion where, if you spend enough in one transaction, Lego will give you a free mini Lego set included with your purchase. For example, right now you can get your hands on a Lego Easter Egg and a Lego Bunny.

The more popular these sets are, the sooner they sell and while some sets come around again, more often than not, if you miss out you’ll have to snag the set you missed on eBay. Now, you can use your Lego-building skills, and your imagination, to design and submit your own little Lego GWP set.

Since these are typically quite small sets, the catch is that you can only use between 150 and 250 elements. You don’t have to use actual physical Lego: building software such as Bricklink’s Studio can be used, too. But you aren’t allowed to make anything licensed or base something on existing Lego property, so if you’re making a mini Star Wars set, sorry, it won’t get picked.

The best 15 sets will be selected by a panel of judges, then put to a fan vote. The winner will have their set made and will receive 10 copies of the set. They’ll also get these Lego sets, including the recently unveiled D+D Red Dragon set.

  • 21348 DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Red Dragon’s Tale
  • 21347 Red London Telephone Box
  • 21346 Family Tree
  • 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera
  • 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad

If you want to enter, either to show off your skill, get your set made or just snag those prizes, you can find the rules and entry details here. Lego’s Set of Your Dream competition runs from now until April 24th.
