Lego Ideas Insect Collection is fluttering into stores next month

Lego Ideas 21342 Insect Collection

The next Lego Ideas set has been unveiled, with Lego 21342 Insect Collection coming to stores on 4th September. Priced at £69.99, this 1,111 piece set is sure to be a hit with any nature fan – although if you really don’t like creepy-crawlies, it might give you the heebie-jeebies!

The set, marketed as a for-adults, 18+ branded set, features models of three rather spectacular insects: there’s a Blue Morpho butterfly, a Hercules beetle and a Chinese mantis. Each insect comes on its own decorative stand, laden with flowers and foliage, and each one has its own instruction book, making this an ideal set to build with friends and family.

Interestingly, the Insect Collection has changed rather significantly from its original Lego Ideas submission. Submitted by Ideas user hachiroku24, it originally had five insects: the three that made it to the final model, as well as a bee and a ladybird. Well, look closely and there is a bee and a ladybird in there, but tiny compared to the others. Instead, Lego has kept the included insects to scale, hoping to make them as realistic as possible. And with the addition of the detailed bases for each insect, we’ve got to admit that the finished design is just beautiful.

If you’re a Lego VIP Member, you can pick up Lego Idea 21342 from 4th September. Everyone else will have to wait until the 7th. It’ll cost £69.99, and it’s exclusive to Lego Stores and Lego.com. More information about the set is available on the Lego website.
