Take a bite out of this Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant

Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant 71426

We’d like to apologise for the low quality of that opening pun but Lego already went with ‘Get Ready to Snap Up the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant‘. However, bitter as we might be over being beaten to that gag, we have to admit that this set looks really rather excellent.

Featured in multiple Mario games, from Super Mario Bros. onwards, the Piranha Plant lurks in pipes and other locations, emerging to sink its teeth into plumber flesh. Often you can work out when it’s going to emerge but a few Mario games have shaken things up a little.

This model is a respectable 23cm high, complete with posable leaves, stalk and mouth. It’s not part of the modular Super Mario line, rather it’s part of the adult series which includes the Question Mark Block and the Mighty Bowser. And like those sets, this is for builders age 18 or over.

The good news is that unlike The Mighty Bowser, this won’t set you back £200+. Instead, featuring 540 pieces, it’s priced at $59.99 / €64.99 / £57.99. The Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant Set (71426) will be available from the official Lego store from November 6th.

So, get ready to snap it.. dammit, Lego.

After relegating my Lego to the loft, many years ago, I've regained my interest in these plastics bricks, partly because today's sets seem so, so much cooler than when I was a kid. Though I'm still reluctant to spend three figures on a single set.
