LEGO Friends are Heading to Space with Olivia’s Space Academy

LEGO has just revealed an upcoming Friends set, sending mini-dolls to space for the first time. There’s a huge range of LEGO City space-themed sets, many of which have NASA branding. But this is a first for LEGO, doing a space set squarely aimed at girls.

While we don’t think it’s entirely necessary to stick a few pink bricks on a space shuttle to get girls interested, we do appreciate just how popular the LEGO Friends brand is. And so, any new set that might ignite a love of space and science into a younger generation is good by us.

LEGO Friends 41713 Olivia’s Space Academy features a NASA-branded space shuttle that’s very much based on Discovery. It has opening payload doors, though there’s no Hubble telescope inside; instead, t here’s a Canadarm which can hold a mini-doll as they explore the far-reaches of space.

It also comes with a ‘Space Academy’ building, a multi-axis trainer that spins mini-dolls around, and a telescope. There are four mini-dolls included: William, Dr. Vidya, Julian and Olivia.

Olivia’s Space Academy is coming to stores on 1st May, and it’ll be priced at £59.99. For a 757-piece set, that’s not bad value, and all told, this is a very nice-looking set.
