Concorde is making a return – but this time in Lego form
Thanks to Lego, Concorde is taking flight once more, with a brick-built model of the iconic plane coming to stores in September.
Most of us never got a chance to go on a Concorde aeroplane. Ahead of its time, the plane that could travel from London to New York in less than five hours was retired in 2003 thanks to expensive running costs. But next month, it’s making a return. Well, at least a Lego version of Concorde is.
Out on 7th September (4th for Lego VIP members), Lego Icon Concorde is a 2,083 piece set that, when built, gives you a metre-long display set of the epic Concorde. It comes with a display stand and plaque, making it easy to show off, and packs in a lot of detail. Like the real thing, it has a tiltable droop nose, a functioning landing gear, a retractable tail bumper wheel, moveable elevons on the wings, and hinged rudders.
There’s also some internal details to see, too, such as seating and even teeny-tiny toilets. It’s, of course, nowhere near minifig scale. The model would need to be dozens of metres long for that!
While the Lego Icons Concorde is probably going to have a fairly niche appeal, there’s no doubting this is a stunning display piece, and is going to be a must-have for any aviation fan. When it launches, it’ll be exclusive to the Lego Store and will retail for £169.99. More information is available from Lego’s website.
