Here’s the First LEGO Avatar Set: Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls

LEGO Avatar 75574 Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls

We’re going to hold back on sharing our thoughts of the Avatar franchise as a whole. No matter what we think of it, there’s a series of LEGO models based on it coming soon. And here’s our look at the first one: LEGO Avatar 75574 Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls.

Bizarrely, this is a playset marked as age 12+, a strange age rating – but presumably driven by the BBFC rating of the upcoming movie. It’s not cheap, either: it’ll cost £129.99/$149.99 when it launches on 1st October. So what do you get for that much money?

LEGO Avatar 75574 Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls

LEGO Avatar Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls is a 1,212 piece set, so it’s fairly sizable. Rather than being one consecutive model, it’s made up of several elements, all rather nice in their own right. There’s a large red dragon-type creature (the titular Toruk), the Tree of Souls, and an environmental rock structure.

The Tree of Souls is perhaps the most eye-catching part of the set; a pink weeping willow with a detailed trunk and ground roots. It looks fabulous. The rock structure is also well-designed. We’re not sure about the Toruk; its foil wings make it look very much like a plaything. Which we guess it is, but it looks out of place with the rest of the set.

There are four minifigures included in LEGO Avatar 75574 Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls. The unusual thing here is they have a brand new mould; their faces are a different shape and their legs are longer than usual minifigures. There’s Jake Sully, Neytiri, Mo’at and Tsu’Tey.

More information is available on LEGO.com. Pre-orders are open in the US, and for everywhere else, it’ll become available on 1st October.
