You can view all sets here on LEGO.com – we’re fairly confident that no matter what set you choose, your LEGO/Mario fan won’t be disappointed. But keep reading to see our five favourite LEGO Super Mario sets.

Adventures With Mario/Luigi Starter Course (71360/71387)

LEGO Adventures With Luigi
  • Number of pieces: 280 (Luigi), 231 (Mario)
  • RRP £49.99 each

If you or the person you’re shopping for owns no LEGO Super Mario sets at all, you’ll need to start with a Starter Course. There are two to choose from: Mario and Luigi. They can be used together, or separately, and each comes with an electronic Mario/Luigi figure. You’ll need this figure to interact with any other sets from the range. And if you have both, they interact with each other. Aww.

Bowser’s Airship (71391)

LEGO Super Mario Bowser's Airship
  • Number of pieces: 1,152
  • RRP £89.99

The biggest LEGO Super Mario set is also, unsurprisingly, one of the best. This recreation of Bowser’s iconic Airship makes the perfect playset and expansion to any LEGO Super Mario set up. The ship itself expands and contracts, which in itself is super cool. Add to that the nifty play features – a grabbing hand, Kamek, a cannon start pipe and a POW block – and you’ve got a set that will entertain for hours on end.

Master Your Adventure Maker Set (71380)

LEGO 71380 Super Mario Master Your Adventure
  • Number of pieces: 366
  • RRP £49.99

This is the perfect add-on to any LEGO Super Mario set-up. It comes with a range of pieces to extend any course, allowing builders complete creative freedom of their layout and design. It features some familiar Mario characters too – there’s a Bob-omb, a Koopa Paratroopa, Larry and a Goomba. And this is the only set to include a special pipe which introduces new features into play. It’s the best LEGO Super Mario set to buy for someone who already has a set or two in their collection.

Mario’s House & Yoshi Expansion Set (71367)

  • Number of pieces: 205
  • RRP £24.99

There’s a very obvious reason why this set has made it to our list of best LEGO Super Mario sets; just look how cute Yoshi is! The buildable Yoshi, along with the tiny Mario house and movable hammock make this one of the most adorable sets in the range. Since it’s from the first wave of LEGO Super Mario, it’s often available much cheaper than its RRP, too.

Piranha Plant Power Slide Expansion Set (71365)

  • Number of pieces: 217
  • RRP £24.99

The Piranha Plant Power Slide makes use of a few pieces of LEGO roller coaster track, with a little cart that Mario can sit in and slide from side-to-side. The slide is more of a see-saw, moving side to side as Mario’s cart slides around on it. Along with the slide, there’s also a small buildable desert section, complete with cacti, a Koopa Troopa and a Goomba.
