There’s another set to add to the boatload of new LEGO products releasing on 1st January 2022. This is one we’re particularly excited about, however. The long-awaited LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog: Green Hill Zone was finally unveiled yesterday. And its release date is only a few days away.
LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog was first announced back in February after a delayed decision as to whether or not it would enter production. It’s based on a LEGO Ideas design submitted by LEGO/Sonic fan Viv Grannell. As always, the design has been tweaked somewhat to make it suitable for retail, but the design we’re left with is eye-catching – and will surely be a must for any Sonic the Hedgehog fan.

Made up of 1,125 pieces, LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog: Green Hill Zone is modular, meaning its pieces can be put together in a number of ways. Or, if you wish, multiple sets can be purchased to make an even bigger replica Green Hill Zone level. There’s a loop-de-loop, various enemies for Sonic to squash, gold coins to collect and, of course, a Dr. Robotnik to be defeated.

There’s a number of interactive elements in the level, too. A Technic lever gives a spring module a realistic bounce, for example. And since this is a realistic replica of a Sonic the Hedgehog level, you’ll find invincibility and super speed TV screens to collect.
Despite looking and feeling like a playset, LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog: Green Hill Zone is part of LEGO’s 18+ range. That doesn’t mean it can’t be played with, of course. But it works just as nicely as a display piece. We’re certainly looking forward to having this one on show in the office, that’s for sure.

The set will be available from 1st January 2022, priced at £59.99. It’s exclusive to LEGO stores and LEGO.com. Find out more about the set by clicking here.
